Roll a dice online
An ordinary six-sided die as a wheel, faces 1 to 6 with their pips. Use it for board games when the die has gone under the sofa, or whenever you need a random number from 1 to 6.

How to use
- Spin once per die; for games that roll two dice at once, spin twice and add the two numbers.
- A 6 comes up on average once in six spins, so do not expect it every few turns.
- Show the wheel on the TV with Present mode so everyone at the board game table sees the roll.
- Rename faces for your own game, for example 1 to 3 as Move and 4 to 6 as Draw a card.
Ideas and variations
- Ludo or snakes and ladders with young children who find a real die hard to throw.
- Exercise dice: give each face its own exercise, such as squats on 1 and push-ups on 2, and do ten of whatever comes up.
- Maths practice: roll twice and multiply, or roll three times and make the biggest number possible.
- Writing game: roll for the number of sentences in the next part of a group story.
- Turn order in a six-player game: whoever rolls highest goes first.
Questions
Can I use it to pick a random number from 1 to 6?
Yes. The six slices are the numbers 1 to 6, each with an equal one-in-six chance, so it doubles as a random number generator for that range.
How do I roll two dice?
Spin twice and add the results. Totals from 2 to 12 are not equally likely: 7 is the most common, because six combinations make it.
Why do the faces show dots too?
The pip symbols match the faces of a real die, which helps young children who count dots before they read numbers. Delete the symbols if you only want the digits.
