How to spin the wheel in 3 steps

  1. Add your options

Type one per line, or paste a column from Google Sheets or Excel. Duplicates are spotted for you and merge with one click. A CSV or text file opens with Import.

  2. Choose how to pick

One winner, several winners, elimination, a full order or teams. Sound, spin time and the look of the wheel are under Customize.

  3. Spin and show the result

Press Start, or Space when the wheel’s button has focus. Every result lands in History. To show it to a class or an audience, switch to Present or open a Live room.

What the wheel is good for

One list, five ways to pick. Switch the method in the setup card; your list stays as it is.

One winner

Who answers next

Call a student to the board, settle who buys the coffee or decide what is for dinner. Turn on "Remove winner after spin" so everyone gets one turn.

Also handy for: a daily chore, the next song, a random question for a quiz.

Random student picker
Several

Three prizes, three winners

Draw several winners at once, with no repeats and in the order they came up. For contests, turn on Draw with proof so participants get a link to the proof.

Also handy for: picking volunteers, choosing reviewers, a raffle with runner-up prizes.

Pick multiple winners
Elimination

Last one standing

Each spin knocks one name out until a single one is left. Good for quiz nights, party games and cutting a long list of films down to tonight’s pick.

Also handy for: a knockout tournament, narrowing down holiday ideas, picking a team name.

Random movie picker
Order

Who presents first

Project defences or the morning stand-up: one spin puts the whole list in a numbered order, so nobody argues about going first.

Also handy for: a spelling bee, a turn order for board games, a fantasy draft.

Stand-up order generator
Teams

Split a class into teams

Random teams for a game or a group project. Choose how many teams; their sizes differ by one person at most.

Also handy for: five-a-side football, workshop groups, pairing people for a code review.

Random team generator

Is the wheel really random?

Yes. The winner is chosen by your browser’s cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the animation starts; the wheel only rolls to the segment that was already picked. Stop just shortens the slowdown, it never changes the result.

Past spins have no effect on the next one, so the same name can come up twice in a row, just as a coin can land heads twice. Don’t take our word for it: spin this wheel 10,000 times and see how the results fall.

For contests: a draw with proof

Before the spin, turn on Draw with proof in Wheel setup, or start from the giveaway template where it is already on. After the spin you get a public proof link for the participants.

  1. Before the spin the site publishes a fingerprint of the list and of a secret number. Neither can be swapped after that.
  2. The spin picks the winner from that secret number.
  3. After the spin the secret is revealed, and anyone can check the result in their own browser.

More about data and privacy

Is it free? Do I need to sign up?

Everything is free: all five methods, the templates, live rooms and draws with proof. No sign-up needed: your list and settings stay in this browser. An account is only useful to open your wheels on another device.

What an account is for

Does it work for a class, a stream or OBS?

Yes. For a projector there is Present: a dark screen with just the wheel and Start. In class, open a Live room: students scan a QR code and add their own names from their phones. For a stream, add the spin link as a Browser source in OBS.

Guide for streamers

Can I install it as an app?

Yes, without an app store. The wheel opens from your home screen in its own window and spins without an internet connection. On iPhone: Share, then Add to Home Screen.

Install the app

How many names fit on the wheel?

Up to 10,000 entries. The wheel draws up to 1,000 segments, but every name keeps its chance. To make one come up more often, give it a weight in Weights & colours; weights are visible to everyone.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers. Everything else is on the FAQ page, or write to [email protected].

All questions

Why did the same name come up twice in a row?

Each spin is independent of the ones before it. With 12 names, the chance of a repeat on the next spin is 1 in 12, and over five spins at least one repeat happens more often than not. To stop a name coming back, turn on "Remove winner after spin".

How do I give everyone exactly one turn?

Turn on "Remove winner after spin", or choose Order: one spin puts the whole list in sequence. A removed name comes back with Undo in History.

Can the wheel be rigged?

No. The result is chosen before the animation and does not depend on when you press Start or Stop. The only way to change the odds is weights, and weights are shown in the list and in the draw proof.

How do I move my wheel to another computer?

Open Share and copy a link: the wheel opens from it on any device. Or sign in, and your saved wheels open wherever you sign in.

How do I paste a list from Google Sheets or Excel?

Select a column, copy it and paste it into the entries field. Each cell becomes a line and empty cells are skipped. A CSV or TXT file opens with Import.

How do I put the wheel on a website or in slides?

In Wheel setup, copy the embed code: the wheel then spins right on your page. For Google Slides or PowerPoint, a link or a QR code on the slide works best.

How does a Live room work?

Open a Live room and you get a QR code and a room code. People join from their phones, type their own name and watch the spin live. The host can close the room to new names and remove any name.

Does the wheel work offline?

Yes, once you have opened it or installed it as an app. Offline you can spin with every method, with sounds and history. Live rooms and publishing a draw with proof wait until you are back online.

How do I run a giveaway for my followers?

Copy the participants’ usernames from the comments or a spreadsheet and paste them into the entries field. Turn on Draw with proof in Wheel setup before the spin, then post the proof link with the results so anyone can check the list was not changed.

Which languages are available?

English, Español, Português, Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Polski, Türkçe, Bahasa Indonesia and Русский. Switch the language from the header; your wheel stays as it is.
