Every spin starts by choosing the winner, then the wheel animates to land on it. The animation is for show; the choice is made by a cryptographic random number generator.
Where the randomness comes from
Your browser has a cryptographic random number generator, the same kind used to create secure keys. The wheel asks it for a number and maps that number to an entry without favouring any of them.
Why the same name can come up twice
Randomness has no memory. With ten names and five spins, it is more likely than not that some name repeats. If you need each name once, remove winners after each spin.
How weights work
- Every entry starts with weight 1.
- An entry with weight 3 is three times as likely as an entry with weight 1.
- The chance of each entry is its weight divided by the total of all weights.
When you need proof
For giveaways, turn on Fair draw. It publishes a proof page so anyone can recompute the winner and see that nothing changed.
